Discovery Day Program provides uplifting opportunities for individuals with DD to become engaged in the community through service-oriented involvement, while having encouraging peer interactions and adding positive variety to daily routines.

Need for Discovery Day Program

Families and caregivers of people with DD need an accessible, reliable, safe, and affordable service that provides a positive alternative to vocational jobs, alternatives to employment, and other day programs currently available.

Guests

Discovery Day Program is available for individuals with DD, ages 18 and older. The participants include individuals with a wide variety of DD (Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, etc.), ethnic backgrounds, financial statuses, religions, and living situations. This program is unable to serve people who require less than a 1:5 staff/guest ratio or people with violent and/or sexually-aggressive behaviors.

Location & Hours

This program operates at Martha’s Place, located in Tigard, OR and Selah West, located in Hillsboro, OR. The day program is open from Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Costs & Funding

The day program provides affordable respite services to caregivers. For those who have been pre-approved to receive Medicaid funds through the State, services may be covered by State funds. For those paying privately, a fee of $13.00 per hour for 6 hours of participation is required to help with the operating costs. This includes all-day supervision, community service opportunities, supported relationship building skills, and in-house entertainment. All guests will be asked to provide their own lunch and spending money during their stay

Trained Staff

Our respite team is comprised of direct care staff and QWO’s Respite Program Manager. All team members have passed an FBI background check, are certified in First Aid and CPR, and are comprehensively trained to provide a safe and loving atmosphere for the guests.

Reservations

All guests and guardians are required to tour Martha’s Place and/or Selah West prior to signing up for the program. Tours are given Tuesday-Friday from 10:00am-5:00pm. Please call the Program Manager ahead of time to schedule a tour and we would be happy to show you around.

How often can I attend the day program?

Guests may participate in the program either one or two days each week. A one-month commitment is required. At the end of this period, guests will be given the opportunity to reassess their participation and make any necessary adjustments. There will be a wait list available for those families unable to reserve a space for their loved ones.
